Shuugi House Rules
This is the house ruleset I like to use for normal shuugi games.
Base ruleset: Mahjong Soul ranked + shuugi.
Major Modifications
These are changes that commonly affect gameplay.
- Abortive draws are off if hand-shuffling.
- Kiriage Mangan is on.
- Agariyame and tenpaiyame are off.
Shuugi
Each shuugi chip is equivalent to 2000 points of value.
- Each of ippatsu, aka, and ura is worth 1 chip.
- Yakitori is worth 3 chips paid to the table
- Re-yakitori: if no one is yakitori, everyone becomes yakitori again.
- Yakuman shuugi is 10 chips if ron, and 5 chips each if tsumo. Applies to kazoe yakuman.
Oka and Uma
Oka is 5000 per player. I.e., 25k start with 30k return for yonma, and 35k start with 40k return for sanma.
Uma is paid in chips.
- Yonma Hanchan: +8/+3/-3/-8
- Yonma Tonpuu: +4/+1/-1/-4
- Sanma Hanchan: +8/0/-8
- Sanma Tonpuu: +4/0/-4
Chonbo/Dead Hand
We follow WRC’s definition of chonbo and dead hand for regular penalties, except with the following changes:
- chonbo penalty is always 2 chips paid to everyone else.
- an empty win call without revealing the hand results in a dead hand, NOT chonbo.
Minor Modifications
These are very specific changes that rarely affect gameplay.
- Renhou is a 7-han yaku.
Clarificatinos
- Nagashi Mangan payment will void tenpai payments. All other game progression stays unchanged (i.e., riichi sticks stay in the center, honba counter +1, dealership rotates if dealer is not tenpai).
